Who is the instructor?

Phoebe is an audio engineer, researcher and designer. She has extensive experience in helping national and international companies create effective audio-driven products and services.

She has recently led projects for KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, KRO NCRV, Flitsmeister and Babylon Health, among others. She also often gives training and workshops for individuals, but has also for design teams within large organizations such as Patagonia.

Who is the course for?

This course is for content creators who want to do audio the right way. You don’t need any audio knowledge or production experience to participate. This course is not re-inventing the wheel. We will start at the beginning and quickly teach you the industry standard essentials.

Learning Path and Schedule

The basics of sound. Essential information about frequency and amplitude. Explanations of common important audio and production terms that you should know.  This lesson is designed to get a good grasp of the basic principles of audio. We will cover many of the foundational concepts such as sample rates, bit depths, decibels, clipping, headroom, effects, codecs, file formats, and visualizations.

Fundamentals of pro audio equipment. Information about industry standard microphones and interfaces. I’ll give you a good understanding of how some of the gear used in radio studios and recording studios around the world actually works. You also get specific recommendations for what types of hardware you use in different situations.

Training about digital audio workstations (DAW). A DAW is an electronic application software used for recording, editing and producing audio files. We will focus on two industry leading applications: Pro Tools and Ableton.

In this lesson, we will learn how to record a professional voice-over. No more lousy audio quality and noise distracting from your valuable content. We study the ins and outs of creating a studio and broadcast-quality voice recording. It is presented in a practical and relevant manner, using recording equipment optionally included in this masterclass.

Now that we’ve learned how to record, we need to know how to properly edit our recordings because, as you will see, performance is not always perfect. Learn how to replace, repair, cut and clean your recordings. We will also study noise reduction and de-essing.

We will study how to enhance your sound quality. In the process, we zoom in on volume level, frequency content, and dynamics. We learn how to optimize results using audio effects and plugins.
